ABA League j.t.d. Assembly session – everything is set for start of 2016/17 season

ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has, at its session, held on 21 September 2016 in Zagreb, in the hotel International, agreed upon several decisions with a goal of further progress of the competition and successful start of the 2016/17 season.

In accordance with a proposal of League’s Director Krešimir Novosel the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has unanimously elected mister Iztok Rems to be the new Commissioner for Delegating Referees, while the mandate of mister Branko Jovanović as the President of Referees Commission has been extended.

Iztok Rems used to be an international referee between the years 1975 and 2008. After he retired he received a golden whistle, the greatest honour for a basketball referee. Also, Rems used to work as the Slovenian National Basketball Federation Secretary General between the years of 1995 and 2014.

ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has confirmed the financial plan, as well as the list of referees and commissioners for the 2016/17 season. At the same time the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has agreed that the referees will no longer be delegated in accordance with the nationality key.

The ABA League j.t.d. Assembly expressed its regret for the fact that, on the contrary to the plan, there was no meeting with the national basketball federations, that haven’t responded to the invitation for the second time and have therefore once again indicated that they are not ready for discussions and cooperation with a goal of further progress of all basketball subjects within the region. At the same time the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly expressed its hope that the national basketball federations would change its standpoint, but also firm determination to defend the united desire of all clubs to participate in and furtherly develop the regional league, by all means available.

In accordance with previously confirmed calendar, the 2016/17 ABA League season will begin on 29 September with a game between Cedevita and Budućnost VOLI.
