Petrov to replace Mihevc at Krka bench

Krka and their head coach Dejan Mihevc have mutually agreed on contract termination. The new head coach is Simon Petrov.

The new head coach is Simon Petrov, which will lead the team already next round in the ABA League against Partizan NIS. Dalibor Damjanović and Ožbej Stane will remain assistant coaches.

As a Novo mesto born player, Petrov began his basketball career with Krka and won several trophies with the club. Besides the others there is the Slovenian national championship trophy from 2000, when he scored the game winning points in the dying seconds of the game of the semi-finals and help his team eliminated the strongest domestic squad at that time Union Olimpija. He returned to Krka after a successful international playing career in 2008 and played for his hometown team until the 2011/12 season, when he ended his active playing career. He won 3 more domestic championship trophies, played at the ABA League Final Four Tournament with Krka and won the EuroChallenge Cup with the Novo mesto squad.

Between 1999 and 2003 he also played for the Slovenia senior national team.

After the end of his playing career he decided to continue as a coach. He began with Krka as an assistant coach, later led Slovan and returned to Krka to lead the youth categories in 2015/16 season, when he won the Slovenian junior national championship trophy.

Petrov bo zamenjal Mihevca na Krkini klopi

V Krki so se dogovorili za sporazumno prekinitev sodelovanja z glavnim trenerjem Dejanom Mihevcem. Novi glavni trener bo Simon Petrov.

Za novega glavnega trenerja kluba so imenovali Simona Petrova, ki bo ekipo vodil že v prihodnjem kolu lige ABA proti moštvu Partizana NIS. Pomočnika trenerja ostajata Dalibor Damjanović in Ožbej Stane.

Petrov je kot Novomeščan košarko začel igrati za Krko in z njo osvojil kar nekaj lovorik. Med drugim prvi naslov državnih prvakov Krke leta 2000, ko je z odločilnim košem v zadnjih sekundah polfinala izločil takrat morda najmočnejšo ekipo Union Olimpije. V Krko se je po uspešni mednarodni karieri vrnil v sezoni 2008 in za svoj matični klub igral do vključno sezone 2011/2012, ko je zaključil z aktivnim igranjem košarke. V tem času je s Krko osvojil 3 naslove državnih prvakov, se udeležil finalnega turnirja ABA lige in osvojil evropski EuroChallenge pokal.

V letih 1999 do 2003 je igral tudi za slovensko člansko reprezentanco.

Po končani karieri se je odločil, da nadaljuje svojo košarkarsko pot kot trener. Začel je v domačem klubu kot pomočnik trenerja, kasneje vodil ekipo Slovana in se v sezoni 2015/2016 vrnil v Krko, kjer je z mladinci osvojil državno prvenstvo.
