Done deal – Will Cherry will wear Orange in the 2017/18 season

After bringing back Roko Leni Ukić, Cedevita have now completed their point guard tandem for the following season, as they signed a contract with American player Will Cherry.

Will Cherry is used to play in Europe, as he spent the previous three seasons playing for Zalgiris Kaunas, Alba Berlin and Gaziantep, respectively.

He studied at the Montana University, but he was not selected at the 2013 NBA Draft. Still, he has regularly played in the NBA Summer League since then, while in the 2014/15 season he played 8 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA League, averaging 1.9 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1 assists per match.

Cherry finished the 2014/15 season in Europe, as he joined Zalgiris Kaunas. It was his first experience of playing basketball oversees, while he averaged 7.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per match in the Euroleague. He also won the Lithuanian Championship with Zalgiris.

In the 2015/16 season, Cherry played for Alba Berlin, averaging 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in the Eurocup, while he helped the team win the German Cup.

Finally, in the 2016/17 season, this American point guard moved to Turkey where he played for Gaziantep. He averaged 10.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists in the FIBA Champions League.

Will Cherry potpisao za Cedevitu

Nakon što je nedavno najavljen dolazak Roka Ukića, Cedevita je uspjela dogovoriti suradnju i s razigravačem Willom Cherryjem. Riječ je o sjajnom playmakeru s iskustvom igranja europske košarke s obzirom na vrijeme provedeno u Žalgirisu, Albi Berlin i turskom Gaziantepu. Riječ je o Amerikancu, koji je 8. veljače 1991. godine rođen u Oaklandu. Četiri je sezone proveo igrajući za sveučilište Montana, gdje je tri puta bio imenovan u prvu petorku Big Sky konferencije, a u toj konferenciji dvaput je bio imenovan i obrambenim igračem godine.

Na draftu 2013. godine nije bio izabran. U NBA ljetnim ligama dosad je nastupao za New Orleans Pelicanse, Cleveland Cavalierse i San Antonio Spurse, a u sezoni 2014./2015. uspio je za Cleveland upisati i osam nastupa u regularnoj NBA sezoni. Pritom je u prosjeku bilježio 1.88 poena, 0.62 skokova, 1 asistenciju i 0.75 ukradenih lopti za 8.7 min.

U sezoni 2013./2014. Cherry je igrao u razvojnoj NBA ligi, gdje je za Canton Charge u prosjeku bilježio 11.61 poen, 3.67 skokova, 4.5 asistencija i 1.39 ukradenih lopti za 30.4 min., a u Europi je nastupao za Žalgiris (2014./2015.), Albu Berlin (2015./2016.) i Royal Hali Gaziantep (2016./2017.).

Cherry je sa Žalgirisom iskusio igranje u Euroligi (u tom natjecanju je imao prosjek od 7.13 poena, 2.4 skoka i 1.67 asistencija za 18.5 min.), s Albom je nastupao u Eurokupu (10.33 poena, 4.56 skokova, 3.72 asistencije i 1.67 ukradenih lopti za 26.1 min.), a s turskim Royal Hali Gaziantepom u Fibinom Eurokupu (10.5 poena, 4.36 skokova, 4.43 asistencije i 1.93 ukradenih lopti za 30.6 min.).

Sa Žalgirisom je 2015. bio prvak Litve, a s Albom je 2016. bio pobjednik Kupa Njemačke.
