Union Olimpija can already qualify for Last 32

Budućnost VOLI and Union Olimpija will step on court on Wednesday night in Eurocup and both of them are seeking for their way towards the second round of the competition. While Budućnost are in difficult situation, Olimpija might already seal their place among the Last 32.

Many answers regarding the chances of Budućnost VOLI and Union Olimpija to continue their European journey beyond the New Year, will be given on Wednesday night.

Budućnost VOLI are currently in a difficult situation in their Group D, where they are one win behind the fourth placed Banvit. However their advantage over the Turkish side is the fact that in their mutual clashes this season, Budućnost VOLI comes out on top on scoring difference (won by 13 at home and lost by 8 points on the road). Nevertheless, only the win counts for Luka Pavićević's squad in the 9th round against first placed Unics Kazan in order to remain in the game for advancing into the next stage.

Union Olimpija, on the other hand, have found themselves in a completely different situation after 8 rounds played. They are currently placed on third spot in Group A and due to yesterday's defeat of JSF Nanterre to EWE Baskets Oldenburg, any kind of a victory against Bilbao Baskets at home in the 9th round would be enough to already guarantee them a way through to the Last 32. Besides that fact, even if the green and white lose this game, their chances of advancing remain strong, as Nanterre would have to win the last game of the regular season, while Olimpija needed to lose and even that scenariou could take the Dragons into the next stage.
