Game recap: It"s the ABA League… A place where amazing things happen! Despite being huge underdogs before the start of the Playoffs, Mega Leks have achieved a spectacular success! They are the first ABA League finalists for the 2015/16 season!
The youngest team in the championship have once again defeated Budućnost VOLI and have therefore closed the semifinal series with the overall score 2-0. It was simply a superb game in Sremska Mitrovica. First of all, the hall itself has never been this full! More than 2.500 fans came to watch the game, while the players of both sides repaid them with just amazing basketball. At the end, Mega Leks had more nerves in the key moments and managed to pick up a historic win. They will play in the ABA League Finals for the first time in club"s history!
Key moments: Budućnost VOLI were the first to escape on a double-digit margin. The visitors were in front - 24:34, but Mega Leks then turned on their engines and performed a miraculous comeback in the second quarter. It was 44:40 for the hosts at the big break! Mega Leks were successfully holding the lead throughout the 3rd period, while at the beginning of the last quarter they increased the margin to 65:55!
It was far from over! Budućnost VOLI made 13:2 run and took over the lead - 67:68! However, the Blue squad scored their last basket on 2:22 before the end of the match!!! At that moment, Julius Jenkins made a three-pointer and pushed his team to 71:75 lead. But, that was it! No more points for Budućnost VOLI! Mega Leks simply locked all the ways that were leading toward their basket. On the other end of the court, Nikola Ivanović made a lay-up (73:75), then Danilo Nikolić scored just one free-throw (74:75)... Still, it was Nikolić who was the hero of the home side.
Mega Leks were trailing by one, but they had the ball with 20 seconds remaining on the clock. Budućnost VOLI decided to make a foul and Danilo Nikolić was once again at the free-throw line. This time, he scored both shots - 76:75! The visitors had 9 seconds to do something, but Omar Cook missed a two-pointer from a very difficult situation. Then, it was over!
Man of the match: Nikola Ivanović! Yes, he missed 6 three-pointers (2/8), but he scored 16 points, had 8 assists and had the overall index rating of 21. He was a true leader of Mega Leks. And he played 38 minutes at this game…
Can"t trick the stats: Stats can"t decide a game like this. It was spectacular show, which was decided just by a single shot. Omar Cook missed it…
