The table above separates the ABA League’s 10 most efficient scorers in points per possession into 3 categories based on the number of possessions they have used per game so far this season. The maximums and minimums of the three ranges were set to separate nearly the same number of players into each range.
Range 1: High Volume Scorers
Ex-FMP forward Dragan Apić appears likely to finish the year as the ABA League’s most efficient scorer, with Ex-Igokea forward Tomislav Zubčić not far behind. Both players will be difficult to catch with their last game already finished. However, Antabia Waller has been playing his best basketball of the season in recent rounds and has a chance to surpass Apić if he can get hot from the arc as he has for several long stretches already this season.
Goga Bitadze takes the fourth spot in these rankings and has not seen his effectiveness decline since moving to Budućnost VOLI from Mega Bemax. His role is slightly smaller, but his efficiency has not wavered - uncommon at this level where most players take some time to get acclimated or fit into their niche slowly.
Jacob Pullen and Luka Božić round out the top-tier of the ABA League’s high-volume scorers. Pullen’s jump shooting ability and Božić’s knack for making hustle plays and creating for himself around the rim have stood out all season.
Range 2: Mid-Level Scorers
The second range includes a lot of players on deep teams. Crvena zvezda mts, is home to five of the ten players listed, adding two since the mid-point of the season. Their depth is becoming even more of an asset as the year wears on. Ognjen Dobrić has the team’s most efficient roleplayer, thanks in large part to extremely high field goal percentage around the rim coupled with his above average three-point shooting. Dobrić is one of just three ABA League players to shoot over 80% finishing around the rim in the half court on over 20 attempts this season.
Latavious Williams of Igokea takes the top score among mid-level scorers, just ahead of Aleksa Ilić of Budućnost VOLI. Both players rank among the league’s most athletic finishers, which is a big reason why they place so high here. Both players have also missed several games, with Ilić getting hurt very early on, but both have the pedigree to place highly among this group.
Range 3: Small-Role Scorers
The third range contains players who either do not play very much, are not asked to shoot often, or are very careful with the shots they choose to take. Suad Šehović of Budućnost VOLI remains on track to lead the ABA League in efficiency. A staggering 47 of his 48 his shots in the half court this season have been catch and shoot jumpers, which he’s converting for an effective field goal percentage of 73%. Few players fill as specialized a role as Šehović, but he has filled it extremely well all season.
Igor Marić of Cibona has shot the three extremely well in his own right, but has not played a specialized enough role to keep pace with Šehović. Nonetheless, Marić ranks among the top few players in the ABA League in scoring efficiency on the year and have provided valuable floor spacing.
Danilo Nikolić might not play a huge role for Buducnost, but his inside-outside scoring ability has really shined for the reigning ABA League champions. He has shot the ball extremely well from the field and could climb on this list late in the year if he can get on track from the free throw line.
Dalibor Ilić warrants mention despite sitting towards the bottom of the small-role scorer rankings. At just 18-years-old, the promising forward has been very efficient this season spacing the floor and finishing athletically inside. After making his debut for Igokea two years ago, Ilić is beginning to carve out a niche for himself this season.
