The ABA League season is still in its early stages, but many players have gotten off to a very strong start offensively. The graphic above lists the most efficient offensive players who have averaged over 10 possessions per game in 4 or more appearances.

Digging Deeper

The average ABA League possession has been converted for 0.94 points per possession this season. Though Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana leads all teams scoring 1.09 points per possession, Jordan Loyd of Crvena zvezda mts leading all players by a comfortable margin scoring 1.39 per possession. Proving unguardable off the dribble so far this season, Loyd has scored in bunches both with his pull-up jump shot and finishing around the rim. Though he ranks 4th in points per game, he ranks just a mere 30th in possessions per game as he’s is on a historic pace offensively.

Kenny Gabriel, in contrast, has done much of his damage in off the ball for Mornar. With three-quarters of his shots in the half court coming on catch and shoot jump shots, Gabriel has made teams pay dearly for giving him space. In his ninth professional season, the veteran has put himself on pace to have the best shooting campaign of his career.

ABA League veteran Jaka Blažić’s play offensively has been key to Cedevita Olimpija’s strong start. Though he has done much of his scoring in the half court, his efficiency has been based in his consistency in transition. He has done an excellent job scoring opportunistically in the open floor, but has steadily drawn fouls and limited his mistakes in the half court as well.

The lone interior scorer on this list, Mega Soccerbet’s Filip Petrušev who recently withdrew from this week’s 2020 NBA Draft — has been the league’s most productive player as well as one of its most efficient. An excellent finisher with great hands and touch, Petrušev has also proven to be a very difficult one-on-one matchup in the post shooting 59% in back to the basket situations. Despite how impressive he has been, he could continue to climb these rankings if he can find his range in pick and pop situations.
