ABA League Round 14, Saturday, 9 January 2021:
SPLIT - Budućnost VOLI 78:77 (21:14, 19:26, 21:19, 17:18)
Game recap: On Saturday night, Split have prevailed over Budućnost VOLI at home in Dalmatia in an exciting game, that was decided no earlier than in the final seconds. Split, for which Roko Leni Ukić has made a comeback after long 16 years, have actually been in front for the majority of the playing time. However, in the final quarter Budućnost VOLI took the control of the game’s flow in the final quarter and took the lead. However, Sani Čampara had other plans and handed the win to the hosts. This is only the second defeat of the season for Budućnost VOLI, which also owns nine triumphs, while on the other side, Split have grabbed their fifth win of the season and with nine defeats on their record as well, they have now moved up a bit towards the middle of the ABA League standings and away from the danger zone near the very bottom.
Key moments: Budućnost VOLI entered the final minute with a 75:77 lead. Neither of the two sides managed to score until the last ball possession, which went to Split. The decisive offensive possession did not really go according to the plan for the hosts, but... then Sani Čampara received the ball.
Check out this SPECTACULAR shot and the moments of joy in Split afterwards:
Man of the match: Of course one could argue that Čampara should be the man of the match, given that he has made the decisive shot, but it’s the new Split number 10 Roko Leni Ukić, the one that returned to his hometown after 16 years, that was they key to the yellow squad’s win. He had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 asteal, just as many blocks and a valuation of 18. He is our rightful man of the match!
Can’t trick the stats: Of course the two squads have been similar in many statistical categories this time, as they have been separated by only 1 point of difference in the end, but Split made the crucial difference on the glass, as they have won the rebounding battle 30:22. That’s what turned the flow of the game their way.
