ABA League Round 5, Thursday, 21 January 2021:

CEDEVITA OLIMPIJA – BUDUĆNOST VOLI

Where? Stožice Arena, Ljubljana

When? 19:00

Story of the game: In the delayed game of the ABA League Round 5, Cedevita Olimpija are set to host Budućnost VOLI at home in Stožice Arena in Ljubljana on Thursday night.

A whole lot is at stake this time around, as the two powerhouses will meet in Stožice as right now both squads, although both with a couple of games postponed, are in the middle of the Playoffs race.

With both of them having played 12 games, Budućnost VOLI are currently on a 10:2 record, while Cedevita Olimpija are doing a little less perfect, with a record of 9:3 collected so far.

So it is clear what the meaning of this game is. In case of the hosts’ win, they would tie themselves in the ABA League standings with the Podgorica squad. While in case of the latter, they would even strengthen their position at the top of the standings, as one of the three teams with only 2 defeats suffered so far and, they would pull away from the Ljubljana squad, their direct competitors, for at least a couple of rounds.

Recently, both teams have had similar experience in the ABA League, as both of them have won 3 out of their last five games. However, Cedevita Olimpija are currently on a three-games long winning streak, while Budućnost have lost two rounds ago, while winning in the Round 15 afterwards to return to the winning path.

Remember last year’s clash of the two sides in Stožice and a game-winning shot by Codi Miller-McIntyre? Yes, that game could have gone either way until the very last moments and we are convinced that the forthcoming one would definitely be as exciting as that one.

Match-up in focus: Kendrick Perry or Nikola Ivanović? This is the question, which might as well solve the dilemma on a winning team, as both of the mentioned players are the true floor maestros of Ljubljana and Podgorica squads. Both Perry and Ivanović are right now the top passers and second-leading scorers of their respective squads, while Perry has been averaging 14.2 points and 5.3 assists per game and Ivanović 14.4 points and 4.7 assists. Which one will shine in this game?

Head to head in the regional league: in total 1:1; In Ljubljana 0:1.
