ABA League Round 14, Wednesday, 24 February 2021:

KRKA – CEDEVITA OLIMPIJA

Where? Leon Štukelj Sports Hall, Novo mesto

When? 20:00

Story of the game: In the previously postponed local derby of the ABA League Round 14, Krka will be hosting Cedevita Olimpija at home in Leon Štukelj Sports Hall in Novo mesto.

The significance of the game will this time not be only in the traditional rivalry of two arch competitors, but also due to the competitive importance for both teams in their battle to accomplish their goals, set ahead of the season’s beginning.

Krka have started the season well, but have not been on fire recently, as they are on a 4 games long winless streak, which has put them in the danger zone near the bottom of the standings, as they hold 5 wins in their hands right now, with only Borac having achieved less (4). So it is obvious, that Vladimir Anzulović’s squad need to win badly in order to improve their position in the standings.

On the other side, the worries are a bit sweeter for Jurica Golemac, as his Cedevita Olimpija have won 6 games in a row in the ABA League before the February break and still have only 3 defeats suffered after 15 games played. Currently only Crvena zvezda mts have lost less games (2). This puts the Dragons in a Playoffs race, but they need to keep winning in order to protect their favourable position in the standings right now and the chances of reaching the Top 4 at the end of the season as well.

Which of the two squads can do it this time? Watch the game and find out!

Match-up in focus: It is Rok Stipčević against Kendrick Perry! The two experienced guards will battle one against another and try to prove which one would prevail over the other one and perhaps help push his team to the win. Right now Stipčević is the top scorer and second-leading passer for Krka with an average of 11.6 points and 2.2 assists per game. On the other side, Perry is averaging 14.3 points and 4.9 assists per game, which puts him on a second place in scoring and first in passing at Cedevita Olimpija.

Head to head in the regional league: in total 0:2; In Novo mesto 0:0.
