Olympic Qualifiers: Slovenia and Serbia advance to the finals

Slovenia and Serbia came just a step away from securing their spot at the Tokyo Olympics as they triumphed in the semi-finals of the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers. On the other side, Croatia have lost all chances of reaching the Tokyo Olympics.

Slovenia have scored quite a convincing win vs. Venezuela in the semi-finals of the Kaunas Olympic Qualifying Tournament – 98:70. Mikey Tobey made a sensational performance for the winning team as he finished the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Luka Dončić lacked just 1 rebound to complete the triple double – 23 points, 13 assists, 9 rebounds. In the big final that will determine which team will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Slovenia will play against the winner of the match Lithuania – Poland.

Serbia have defeated Puerto Rico in the semi-finals of the Belgrade Olympic Qualifying Tournament – 102:84. The 2020/21 EuroLeague MVP Vasilije Micić led the Serbian troops toward the win with 21 points and 8 assists, while Nemanja Bjelica added 18 points and 7 rebounds. Serbia will face Italy in the tournament final and the winner of that match will grab the precious Olympic ticket.

Croatia won’t play at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as they suffered defeat against Germany in the semi-finals of the Split Olympic Qualifying Tournament – 76:86. Two-and-a-half minutes before the end the score was all tied – 76:76, however in the rest of the match Germany made the key 10:0 run to take the win. Croatia star player Bojan Bogdanović was the top scorer of this game with 38 points.
