Presenting the 2021/22 ABA League teams – SC Derby

By winning the last season’s ABA 2 championship, SC Derby has qualified for the 2021/22 ABA League season and this will be the club’s 1^st ever time to participate in the top flight of the regional basketball.

The Podgorica side has made some changes in their team, but not too many as most of the last-season squad has remained with the blue-and whites. SC Derby have kept 8 players from the team that won the ABA 2 championship, while so far they have acquired 4 newcomers. Still, let’s start from the head coach as there was a change on that position.

Nenad Trajković is no longer the head coach of SC Derby as the two sides parted ways this summer, while the club appointed former Koper Primorska head coach Andrej Žakelj to lead the team in the 2021/22 season. Žakelj has the esperience of working in ABA League 1 and that experience might be very useful to the team that is about to make their top flight debut.

We mentioned that SC Derby  have kept 8 players from the last-season squad and those players are: Fletcher Magee, Nikola Pavlićević, Andrija Slavković, Milić Starovlah, Viktor Vujisić, Vasilije Baćović, Tomislav Ivišić and Zvonimir Ivišić. Also, the Podgorica team have strengthened their roster by penning deals with Boris Tišma (Real Madrid), Kenan Kamenjaš (Spars), Justin Edwards (Cluj) and Kyle Vinales (Lietkabelis). All four newcomers are about to make their ABA League debut, which is why we are all eager to see them in action when the season finally starts.

It is also important to mention that SC Derby has stayed without some important players from the last season, like Igor Drobnjak, Marko Tejić, Tyler Hagedorn, Emir Hadibegović, Filip Barović and Bryon Allen.

Some ABA 2 champions have left a fantastic impression in their first ever season in ABA 1. Will that also be the case with SC Derby? We will find out very soon.
