AdmiralBet ABA League Round 1, Friday, 24 September 2021:
CRVENA ZVEZDA MTS - SPLIT
Where? Aleksandar Nikolić Sports Hall, Belgrade
When? 20:00
Story of the game: In their first game of the 2021/22 season, the reigning Admiral Bet ABA League champions Crvena zvezda mts will host Split at home in their Aleksandar Nikolić Sports Hall in Belgrade.
There is no doubt that majority of the basketball fans from our region are expecting Crvena zvezda mts to secure a pair of points in their season opener against Split, as last season the red and white have claimed the throne, while Split have secured their spot in the competition only through qualifiers.
However, it would not be the first time that an upset would occur in the opening game of the season and for sure this is what the Yellow squad of Dalmatia are hoping for. They have already had their first tests of the season, as they have appeared in the Basketball Championship Qualifiers and domestic championship, so the competitive rhythm is on their side.
Just like the tradition is at the side of Crvena zvezda mts. The two squads have faced each other 16 times in the regional competition. Split celebrated only twice, never in Belgrade. Can this time be any different?
Match-up in focus: An interesting match-up is coming up at the point guard position, where the newcomer Nikola Ivanović will be facing Toni Perković. Both of the two players have been amongst the most visible individuals on their squads in the preseason period and for sure it will be a delight to watch them battle head to head in Aleksandar Nikolić Hall, as Crvena zvezda mts take on Split.
Head to head in the regional league: in total 14:2; In Belgrade 8:0.
