Story of the game: The opening round of the 2021/22 AdmiralBet ABA League season will end with a true basketball spectacle as Zadar are about to host Partizan NIS on Monday evening in this week’s match of the round.
Both sides have big ambitions for the 2021/22 campaign. Zadar haven’t made many changes in their roster as they had a pretty good finish of the previous season in which they firstly secured their ABA League status, while after that they won the national championship. And now, they want to make one step forward and make something big in the regional league.
On the other side, Partizan NIS made some power moves during the summer as they firstly hired no other than legendary Željko Obradović to be their new head coach, while after that the black-and-whites completed some major signings to significantly strengthen their roster for the upcoming season. Partizan NIS have a clear goal to win the league and that is why the start of the new season is so important to them.
The two sides have so far faced each other 16 times in Zadar in AdmiralBet ABA League history and the home team has a better score in those head-to-head games. Zadar have triumphed 10 times, while Partizan NIS have scored 6 wins.
Match-up in focus: Dominik Mavra was probably the best player of Zadar in the previous season as he was the team's top scorer and the best passer. And that is why it is a huge thing for this team that Mavra has decided to stay with the white-and-blues for one more season. On the other side, all the eyes will be pointed to Partizan NIS summer signing Kevin Punter who is about to make his 2nd ABA League debut. Punter played in the last season's EuroLeague Final Four and has a reputation of a top-class scorer, which is why he should be one of the star players of this new Partizan NIS team.
Head to head in the regional league: In total 12:22; In Zadar 10:6.
