Official announcement regarding the referees' decision in Game 2

In order to clarify the situation, that occured in the final moments of the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Semi-final series between Cedevita Olimpija and Crvena zvezda mts, the AdmiralBet ABA League wishes to inform the public that the decision made by the referees has been correct and in full accordance with the official FIBA Basketball Rules, that have come to force on 1 January 2022.

According to the FIBA Official Basketball Rules interpretations, from 1 January 2022, Playing time, tied score and overtime, article 8-4:

"Example: B1 fouls A1 on his successful shot for a field goal simultaneously with the game clock signal sounding for the end of the first quarter. The ball enters the basket.

Interpretation: The referees must decide by using the IRS, if available, if B1’s foul occurred before the game clock signal sounded for the end of the first quarter.

If the game clock showed 0.0 when the foul occurred, B1’s personal foul shall be disregarded and A1’s field goal shall not count. The first quarter has ended. After the referee has communicated the final IRS review decision, the timer shall start his stopwatch to measure the interval of play. The second quarter shall begin according to the alternating possession procedure.

If the game clock showed more than 0.0 when the foul occurred, A1’s field goal shall count as the game clock stopped at this time. B1 shall be charged with a personal foul. A1 shall attempt 1 free throw. During the free throw players may occupy the free-throw rebound spaces they are entitled to. The game clock shall show the time remaining. The game shall be resumed as after any last free throw."

Therefore, as the referees have made the decision that the foul occured when the game clock showed more than 0.0, it has been evident, that the referees' decision regarding the Luka Mitrović's shot has been made in accordance with the official basketball rules.
