The black-and-whites lost the last-season Finals in dramatic fashion, but now they look stronger than ever and have a clear mission to bring the regional trophy back to their cupboard.
For 10 long years Partizan NIS are waiting to once again claim the regional throne. Recall that the Belgrade giant won their last ABA League title back in the 2012/13 season and at that point they were by far the most successful team in the region.
However, over the past decade the things have changed. Partizan NIS faced some very difficult years, while at the same time their arch rivals Crvena zvezda mts have managed to tie Partizan NIS record of most championships won. Now, the two city rivals have the same number of ABA League titles in their possession (6) and that is why the upcoming season will be so important for each of them.
Partizan NIS obviously want to once again become the all-time leader and that is why the club worked really hard over the summer to create one of the strongest rosters that this team has ever had in ABA League.
For the beginning, one of the best basketball coaches in the world Željko Obradović will still be leading the team and that is already a huge thing for the club. On top of that, Obradović will have almost the entire team from the past season to work with as Partizan NIS made sure to keep their star players in the roster.
Kevin Punter, Zach Leday, Aleksa Avramović, Yam Madar, Mathias Lessort, Alen Smailagić, Gregor Glas, Balša Koprivica, Uroš Trifunović and Tristan Vukčević have all remained the club and the team chemistry they have already built over the past year should be a big advantage for the black-and-whites in the upcoming season.
Partizan NIS made just 4 signings over the summer, but all of those 4 players that arrived in Belgrade are world-class players. Dante Exum arrived from Barcelona with whom he played in the last-season Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four, James Nunnally came from Maccabi Tel Aviv where he had an outstanding season, while Ioannis Papapetrou came from Panathinaikos Athens where he was one of the best players for the past couple of years. Finally, the 4th player who strengthened the 2022/23 Partizan NIS roster is one of the fans’ favorites Danilo Anđušić. Anđušić, who had a fantastic last season with AS Monaco, will therefore start his 3rd stint with the black-and-whites as he already played for this team, firstly from 2011 to 2013 and then in the 2015/16 season.
Now you see why we wrote at the beginning of this text that Partizan NIS look stronger than ever. Will that be enough for them to claim their 7th regional title? We are about to find out in the following season.
