WC Qualifiers: Defeats for Serbia and Slovenia

In Friday’s games of the AdmiralBet ABA League countries in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, both Serbia and Slovenia have suffered defeats, by Greece and Estonia, respectively.

In Athens, Serbia have been a better of the two squads for the majority of the game, but have suffered a shocking overtime defeat nevertheless. They were up by 7 points after the opening quarter, by 9 at halftime and still by 7 as the two squads have entered the final quarter. In the latter, however, the hosts have took control of the game’s flow and tied the game in the trilling finish. The game went into overtime, where eventually Greece prevailed. For Serbia, Nikola Milutinov led the way with 24 points on his record, while Dejan Davidovac had 11.

On the road in Talinn, Slovenia have been defeated by the hosts of Estonia after a thrilling finish in a game, that could have gone either way. In the end, Slovenia have been in front by 2 points (76:78) all until 6 seconds before the end. At that moment, Žiga Samar, who otherwise had an excellent game, made a turnover, to which the Estonians have replied with a 3-pointer for the win with the final score of 79:78. For Slovenia, Mornar-Barsko zlato young gun Gregor Glas led the way in scoring with 18 points on his record, while Žiga Samar added 13.
