Presenting 2023 ABA Super Cup teams: Budućnost VOLI

The hosts of the 2023 ABA Super Cup have high ambitions for the upcoming season and the early success might be exactly what Budućnost VOLI need to bring back that basketball euphoria to Podgorica.

The last season was was something Budućnost VOLI fans would rather forget as soon as possible. Yes, the team qualified for the semi-finals of the 2022/23 AdmiralBet ABA League, however there they suffered two really painful defeats against big rivals Crvena zvezda Meridianbet. On top of that, the blue-and-whites did not make any special result in the 2022/23 EuroCup, which is why the club management eventually decided to change plenty of things in the team over the summer.

Let's just say that only a few “survived” the summer cut.

One of them is head coach Petar Mijović who took over the first team late last season and managed to win the domestic championship. Apart from Mijović, only 4 players from the 2022/23 campaign are still part of the blue-and-white squad. Those are team captain Petar Popović, then Marko Jagodić Kuridža, Aleksa Ilić and Cameron Reynolds.

All the others are the newcomers! And there are 9 of them.

Budućnost VOLI signed two former SC Derby players Fletcher Magee and Andrija Slavković, then they brought in talented Andrija Grbović from Mega MIS, while they also managed to pick up former Mornar-Barsko zlato star player Vladimir Mihailović who participated at the latest FIBA World Cup.

The Podgorica side also hired 5 foreign players, including Marvin Jones (Vaqueros de Bayamon), Allerik Freeman (Beşiktaş), JaCorey Williams (Gevi Napoli Basket), McKinley Wright IV (Dallas Mavericks) and Colbey Ross (Pallacanestro Varese).

And so far, everything looks quite good for the blue-and-whites as they are still undefeated in the ongoing preseason. They have played 4 prep games so far and they have scored 4 wins.

It seems that Budućnost VOLI troops are in quite good shape ahead of the Super Cup and with packed Sports Center Morača on their side they are definitely one of the favorites to win the trophy at the upcoming tournament.
