After a very good last season, SC Derby troops are ready to continue with their ambitious project.
SC Derby made a historic success last season by reaching the AdmiralBet ABA League Playoffs, while on top of that they almost eliminated future champions Partizan Mozzart Bet in the quarter-finals.
The Podgorica troops can be fully satisfied with their results in the previous year and that is why they only made minimal changes in their roster over the summer.
Head coach Andrej Žakelj is about to start his 3rd consecutive season with the blue-and-whites. Žakelj has done a truly remarkable job with this team in the previous two seasons and knowing how ambitious he is, SC Derby head coach will try to make even better results with the Podgorica side in the following year.
Žakelj will have most of the last-season roster at his disposal, with some of the team leaders like Nikola Pavlićević, Mateo Drežnjak and Tomislav Ivišić still wearing the blue-and-white jersey.
And, we can say that SC Derby have made some quite interesting signings that should strengthen the team even more for the 2023/24 campaign.
The Podgorica side have so far acquired 5 new players, including their former center and 2021/22 member of the ABA League Ideal Starting Five Kenan Kamenjaš, who spent last season on a loan in Budućnost VOLI. Then SC Derby signed another their former star player Igor Drobnjak who returned to the club after two years, while they also penned deal with one of the best point guards of the previous AdmiralBet ABA League season Borna Kapusta from Cibona.
Finally, the club signed young star Luka Bogavac from local rival Podgorica and they agreed terms with American forward Aubrey Dawkins who has already showed his class during the preseason.
Speaking about preseason, SC Derby have won 5 out of their 6 prep games and have therefore proved that they are fully ready to make some real noise at the upcoming 2023 ABA Super Cup in Podgorica.
