Presenting 2024/25 AdmiralBet ABA League Teams – SC Derby
The Students did not make any major changes in their roster over the summer, yet we would dare to say that they look stronger than in the previous season.
SC Derby have a historic season behind them as they won 2 trophies in the 2023/24 campaign. The Podgorica troops firstly won the 2023 ABA Super Cup, while after that they managed to win the 2024 Montenegrin National Cup as well. On top of all that, they have reached the AdmiralBet ABA League Playoffs for the second consecutive season.
After such a successful campaign, SC Derby really did not need any major changes in the roster. Yet, they have still made some upgrades to additionally strengthen the squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
But, before we start talking about those upgrades and the team roster in general, let’s just say that SC Derby will enter the new season with a new head coach at the helm. Petar Mijović replaced Dejan Jakara and therefore returned to the AdmiralBet ABA League after a short break. Recall that Mijović coached Budućnost VOLI from 2019 to 2021 and then from 2022 to 2024, while he will now lead the project of another very ambitious Podgorica club.
And now let’s switch to the team roster. SC Derby have kept 9 players from the last season roster, including Vladimir Sudar, Igor Drobnjak, Luka Bogavac, Nikola Pavlićević, Zoran Vučeljić, Emir Hadžibegović, Maruan Čičić, Vasilije Todorović and David Mirković, while on top of that they have added 5 new players to the 2024/25 squad.
Erick Neal has returned to the club after 2 years and that is certainly a huge roster addition for SC Derby, considering how good Neal was during his first stint with the Students.
SC Derby also did a little shopping in their hometown as they signed contracts with Andrija Grbović, who spent the last season in Budućnost VOLI, and with Filip Anđušić, who spent the last season in NLB ABA League 2 side Podgorica.
Also, the club acquired the 2018 ABA champion Zoran Nikolić, who played for Igokea m:tel and Vojvodina mts last season, while the 5th and final roster addition was former Cedevita Junior player Ivan Bogdanović.
SC Derby will once again be a dangerous opponent to anyone in the league, while they look quite capable of reaching the Playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.
