2024/25 AdmiralBet ABA League Round 4, Saturday, 12 October 2024:
CEDEVITA OLIMPIJA – SPLIT
Where? Tivoli Sports Hall, Ljubljana
When? 16:00
Story of the game: In one of the two opening games of the Saturday’s AdmiralBet ABA League schedule, Cedevita Olimpija will be hosting Split at home in their Tivoli Sports Hall in Ljubljana.
It’s a game, where the two squads will be chasing their second win this season and second in a row, after both of them have achieved their first wins of the season in Round 2. While Cedevita Olimpija have been victorious on the road in Bar against Mornar-Barsko zlato, Split have prevailed over the reigning champions Crvena zvezda Merdianbet at home in Gripe.
It’s clear that winning a new game would take the two squads towards the middle of the standings and possibly the Playoffs Zone, while losing the game would mean that they would find themselves on the edge of the safe zone.
Previously, the two squads have met 8 times in the regional competition, with Cedevita Olimpija grabbing 7 wins and Split 1, but it’s worth noting that Split have never ever beaten the Dragons on the road in Ljubljana.
Will the tradition go on or will Split achieve a historic win in Tivoli?
Match-up in focus: Perhaps the most interesting match-up of the game can be the one between captains Jaka Blažič and Shannon Shorter. While Blažič, who is currently the third-leading scorer of Cedevita Olimpija and keeps getting better this season, is currently averaging 10.7 points per game, Shorter has been averaging 15.3 points and 4.3 assists per game as the top scorer and second-leading passer of Split. Who will lead his team to the big win this time?
Head-to-head score in the regional league: In total 7:1; In Ljubljana 4:0.
