18 Clubs to Play in the 2025/26 ABA League Season

Basketball Club Vienna and U-BT Cluj-Napoca are the new members of the ABA League, a new Presidency has been confirmed, ABA League will be composed of 18 clubs in the 2025/26 season and they will be divided into two Regular Season groups. These are the main decisions of the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly session, that took place on 16 July 2025, through the online meeting.

The ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has adopted the reports by the management of the Company, the members of the Referees Commission, as well as the Disciplinary Judge, with which it has confirmed the quality of the work and results achieved in all fields.

After a year, during which he left an unerasable mark in the work of Company, the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has confirmed, that the term of Goran Ćakić (representative of Mega Superbet) at the position of the ABA League j.t.d. President has expired. At the same time, the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has, according to the rotation model selected a new Presidency, composed of President Jure Balažič (representative of Krka) and Vice-Presidents Dragan Bokan (representative of Budućnost VOLI) and Ostoja Mijailović (representative of Partizan Mozzart Bet).

The ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has adopted the Bylaws of the competition for the 2025/26 season, as well as the lists of referees, delegates and officiating instructors.

In accordance with the previous decisions and guidelines of the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly, Basketball Club Vienna and U-BT Cluj-Napoca, have accepted all of the conditions, signed three-year contracts and therefore became members of the 1st ABA League. In accordance with this, the 1st ABA League will be composed of 18 clubs in the 2025/26 season and will be played in accordance with the new competition system, that divides teams into two Regular Season groups, each composed of nine clubs (A and B).

Within each group, the teams will play in the round-robin system, where each team faces each other at home and on the road, during the 18 rounds. In each round, one team will be free. Four (4) best-placed teams from groups A and B will advance to the Top 8 stage of the competition. Five (5) teams, placed from 5th to 9th place from Groups A and B will continue the season in the Play-Out stage of the competition. Both will carry their points from the first stage into the second stage of the competition.

During the Top 8 stage of the competition, the teams will face each team from different group twice according to the round-robin system (at home and away), which brings additional eight (8) rounds. The Play-Out stage of the competition will be composed of ten (10) clubs, that will be playing in a round-robin system, where each team faces each opponent from the other group twice (at home and away), which brings additional ten (10) rounds.

Six best-placed teams from the Top 8 stage of the competition will advance directly to the Playoffs Quarterfinals, while the seventh and eighth teams of the Top 8 alongside the first and second placed teams from the Play-Out in the Play-In stage of the competition. 

The winner of the Play-In clash between the 7th-placed Top 8 team and 8th-placed Top 8 team will directly qualify for the Quarterfinals, while the losing team will face the winning team of the clash between the 1st-placed Play-Out team and the 2nd-placed Play-Out team for the last remaining spot in the Quarterfinals.

The decision whether the Final phase will be played according to the Playoffs System or the Final Four system, will be made as soon as possible.
ABA League j.t.d. Assembly has adopted the calendar of the competition. The season starts on the first weekend of October. With a semi-conducted draw, for the sake of uniformity of quality, the groups were drawn as follows:

Group A: Partizan Mozzart Bet, Dubai Basketball, U-BT Cluj-Napoca, Igokea m:tel, SC Derby, FMP Soccerbet, Borac Mozzart, Split, Krka.

Group B: Crvena zvezda Meridianbet, Budućnost VOLI, Cedevita Olimpija, Spartak Office Shoes, Bosna Visit Sarajevo, Mega Superbet, Zadar, Ilirija, Vienna.

In the end, the ABA League j.t.d. Asembly has adopted the budget for the 2025/26 season, with which the successful and profitable business of the Company continues.
