Krka experienced a turbulent 2024/25 season, but in the end, the club achieved its primary goal -— securing AdmiralBet ABA League status. Still, with an overall record of 5–25, it was clear that changes had to be made. That is why the management decided to rebuild the roster during the summer in order to present a much stronger face in the upcoming campaign.
Continuity on the Bench
Despite the roster shake-up, one very important piece remains in place - head coach Dejan Jakara. Considered one of the best young coaches in the region, Jakara continues his project in Novo mesto and represents one of Krka’s biggest strengths heading into the new season.
Backcourt Foundation
Krka kept only four players from last season, all of them guards: Niko Bačvić, Žan Smrekar, Jaka Klobučar, and youngster Jazon Krošelj. Around them, the club built an entirely new backcourt rotation with fresh signings:
Jan Rebec (Široki TT Kabeli)
Mario Ihring (GTK Gliwice)
Victor Bailey Jr. (Niners Chemnitz)
This mix of experience and energy should give Krka more options and stability at the guard positions.
A Completely New Frontcourt
The most radical changes came in the frontcourt, where Krka assembled an entirely new lineup:
Leon Šantelj (Kvarner)
Urban Oman (ECE Triglav Kranj)
Lovro Urbiha (Kansai Helios Domžale)
Sukhmail Mathon (M Basket–Delamode Mazeikiai)
Lovro Buljević (Mornar-Barsko zlato)
This new group is expected to bring toughness, size, and much-needed depth to Jakara’s system.
Outlook
With a fresh roster and a highly regarded coach continuing his work, Krka enter the 2025/26 AdmiralBet ABA League season looking to be a tough nut to crack for every opponent. After last year’s struggles, the team is determined to show a new face and fight for a higher place on the standings table.
