In the year of a major jubilee – marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the ABA League – the regional basketball competition will undergo significant changes aimed at contributing to the further growth and development of this unique basketball project. This was the general conclusion of the ABA League j.t.d. Assembly session held online, and the most important unanimous decision concerns the formation of a Working Group that will prepare a proposal to change the entire organizational system and select the best sports-business model for the functioning of the ABA League.
The Working Group, which will legally prepare the entire process and draft a new Association Agreement, will consist of representatives of Budućnost VOLI, Cedevita Olimpija, Crvena zvezda Meridianbet and Partizan Mozzart Bet, as well as ABA League j.t.d. Director Dubravko Kmetović and the league’s legal representative Mihovil Granić. After that, a new ABA League j.t.d. Assembly session will be held to discuss the prepared proposal.
Assembly members were also presented with a detailed financial report clearly indicating that ABA League j.t.d. is operating extremely stably and in the most profitable way in its history. The attractiveness of the AdmiralBet ABA League competition is further evidenced by the fact that on January 12, 2026, an official letter was received from BC Slovan of Bratislava, expressing its desire to become a new participant in the regional basketball competition starting next season, subject to meeting all technical and financial requirements.
The ABA League management will begin negotiations, and concrete solutions will only be known after the Assembly members, i.e., the co-owners of ABA League j.t.d., adopt decisions regarding the number of clubs and the competition system that will apply in the upcoming seasons.
Additionally, Assembly members were informed that ABA League j.t.d., as a member of the ECA Assembly, has established direct contact with the new leadership of the EuroLeague, and a proposal for marking the 25th anniversary of the ABA League was also presented and unanimously adopted.
