Bosna BH Telecom are the new champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina! The Sarajevo side ended an 18-year wait for the national title after defeating Igokea m:tel in a dramatic two-game Finals series, prevailing 173:170 on aggregate.
After securing a valuable 76:70 road win in the first leg in Laktaši, Bosna BH Telecom entered the return game in Sarajevo with a six-point advantage. What followed was one of the most thrilling championship battles in recent memory.
Knowing they needed a victory by at least seven points to overturn the aggregate deficit, Igokea m:tel came out determined and produced a dominant first half. The visitors built a 17-point lead by halftime and suddenly looked well on their way to another national title.
However, Bosna BH Telecom refused to surrender in front of their home fans. The hosts gradually chipped away at the deficit throughout the second half and eventually reduced the gap to exactly six points. With the score standing at 83:89 at the end of regulation, the aggregate score was tied, sending the game into overtime.
Igokea m:tel had a chance to avoid the extra period altogether. On the final possession of the fourth quarter, Ahmad Rorie took the decisive shot, but his attempt missed the target, allowing Bosna BH Telecom to survive and extend the battle for the title.
The drama continued in overtime. Igokea m:tel once again held the advantage, but a costly turnover in the final minute proved crucial. Bosna BH Telecom immediately capitalized as Dontay Caruthers converted a lay-up that cut the deficit to four points, a margin that would have been enough to secure the championship for the home side.
Still, the visitors had one last opportunity. With only seconds remaining, Ahmad Rorie was fouled and stepped to the free-throw line. He needed to make both shots to bring the margin back to six and force another overtime. Rorie made the first free throw but missed the second, leaving the score at 95:100 and effectively ending Igokea's hopes.
On the next possession, Jarrod West calmly knocked down both free throws to seal the final score of 97:100 and ignite celebrations in Sarajevo.
