Just one week after winning their sixth consecutive Romanian League title, U-BT Cluj-Napoca have begun forming the team for the 2026/27 season.
In this regard, the club announced the continuation of cooperation with Mihai Silvasan, who will serve as head coach for the 11th consecutive season.
After spending his entire playing career in the black-and-white jersey, Mihai Silvasan transitioned into coaching and joined the staff led by Marcel Țenter at the start of the 2015/16 season as an assistant coach.
Only one year later, Silvasan accepted the challenge of becoming head coach. During the past ten years, he has won all 18 domestic finals in which he participated with U-BT Cluj-Napoca:
7 Romanian League titles
6 Romanian Cups
5 Romanian Super Cups
In addition, he guided U-BT Cluj-Napoca to the quarter-finals of the FIBA Basketball Champions League in the 2021/22 season, as well as to three consecutive BKT EuroCup quarter-final appearances over the past three seasons.
Alongside completing the domestic treble in the recently concluded campaign and reaching the BKT EuroCup quarter-finals, Mihai Silvasan also led U-BT Cluj-Napoca to the AdmiralBet ABA League quarter-finals in the club’s debut season in the regional competition.
Mihai Silvășan, Head Coach of U-Banca Transilvania:
“First of all, I am very happy to continue with the team that means so much to me. This is something rare, and it is very important for me to be the head coach of this team for an 11th consecutive season.
I have grown together with this team, and of course our journey does not stop here. We want to become even better and achieve even greater things. We move forward with a lot of confidence and ambition to improve further and continue growing, even though the challenges ahead will be significant next season.
We will probably have to build almost from scratch, and I believe we are largely accustomed to doing that. We accept this challenge and move forward.
What I can promise our fans, whom I would like to thank for supporting the team throughout all these years, is that we will give everything we have to make them proud to support this club. We will fight for victory in every game.
We look forward to having them by our side again so that we can continue celebrating the achievements of this team together.”
