Vienna agrees to terms with Bogdan Zimonjić

Primarily a shooting guard, Bogdan Zimonjić can also play on the wing depending on the lineup. Standing 1.91 meters tall, the newcomer combines athleticism and physicality with a reliable outside shot, giving BC Vienna additional options on the perimeter.

For Zimonjić, Vienna marks the next chapter in a career that has taken him from Belgrade to the United States and back to Serbian professional basketball.
"I chose BC Vienna because I believe this is the right step for my further development," said Zimonjić.

"The coach, the excellent training conditions, the positive environment within the club, and the city of Vienna all played a major role in my decision."

Zimonjić began his basketball journey in Belgrade. After developing with KK Čubura and KK Radnički, he decided to continue his career in the United States He first played for Florida Atlantic University before transferring to Tennessee Tech, where he spent three seasons competing in NCAA Division I.

During his college years, Zimonjić focused not only on his basketball development but also on his education, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He also gained international experience as a member of Serbia's U20 national team.

After returning from the United States, Zimonjić began his professional career with KK FMP, where he made his ABA League debut. Later that season, he moved to KK Dynamic, the club where he had already made his first senior appearances as a teenager.

The move proved to be an important step forward. With increased playing time and greater responsibility, Zimonjić steadily improved throughout the 2025/26 season, averaging 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game in the Serbian KLS.

Head coach Dragan Bajić was particularly impressed by Zimonjić's development over the course of the season.

"What is especially encouraging is that Bogdan consistently raised his level throughout the season, both offensively and defensively," said Bajić.

His average of 8.2 rebounds per game stands out in particular. For a player of his size and position, that number is exceptional, highlighting his willingness to battle for every ball, anticipate situations, and contribute in many ways beyond scoring.

Bajić believes rebounding is only one aspect of Zimonjić's game.

"Bogdan is physically strong, capable of playing intense and tough defense, and possesses an excellent outside shot. On top of that, he has a great instinct for offensive rebounds."

At BC Vienna, Zimonjić is expected to showcase his abilities at a higher level of competition and provide the team with an important boost through his physicality, energy, and shooting ability.

The new signing is looking forward to the challenge with clear ambitions:

That basketball has been part of Bogdan Zimonjić's life from the very beginning is no coincidence. His first contact with the sport came at KK Partizanski Put in the Belgrade district of Karaburma, a club co-founded by his grandfather, Petronije Zimonjić.

Petronije Zimonjić was one of the most influential strength and conditioning coaches in basketball across the former Yugoslavia for decades. The family's deep connection to the sport continued into the next generation.

Bogdan's father, Predrag "Bata" Zimonjić, also established himself as a renowned strength and conditioning coach in international basketball. He has worked with the Serbian national team, Fenerbahçe, and BC Khimki, and spent many years alongside legendary coach Željko Obradović, contributing to numerous domestic and international titles. He is currently a member of the coaching staff of EuroLeague club KK Partizan.

Bogdan is benefiting from that expertise this summer. Until the start of preseason, he is working individually with his father on his physical conditioning, preparing specifically for his new challenge with BC Vienna.

Vienna verpflichtet Shooting Guard Bogdan Zimonjić

Mit Bogdan Zimonjić verpflichtet der BC Vienna seinen sechsten Neuzugang für die Saison 2026/27. Der 23-jährige Serbe wechselt von KK Dynamic Balkan Bet nach Wien.

Der vorwiegend als Shooting Guard eingesetzte Zimonjić kann je nach Aufstellung auch Aufgaben auf dem Flügel übernehmen. Der 1,91 Meter große Neuzugang verbindet Athletik und körperliche Präsenz mit einem zuverlässigen Wurf von außen und bringt damit ein Profil mit, das dem BC Vienna auf den Außenpositionen zusätzliche Optionen eröffnet.

Für Zimonjić beginnt in Wien das nächste Kapitel einer Laufbahn, die ihn von Belgrad über die USA zurück in den serbischen Profibasketball geführt hat.
„Ich habe mich für den BC Vienna entschieden, weil ich überzeugt bin, dass dies der richtige Schritt für meine weitere Entwicklung ist“, erklärt Zimonjić.
„Der Coach, die hervorragenden Trainingsbedingungen, das positive Umfeld im Klub und auch die Stadt Wien haben bei meiner Entscheidung eine große Rolle gespielt.“

Seine basketballerische Ausbildung begann Zimonjić in Belgrad. Nach Stationen bei KK Čubura und KK Radnički entschied er sich für den Schritt in die USA. Dort spielte er zunächst für die Florida Atlantic University, ehe er zu Tennessee Tech wechselte und drei Saisonen in der NCAA Division I absolvierte.
Die Jahre am College nutzte Zimonjić nicht nur für seine sportliche Entwicklung. Parallel dazu schloss er sein Studium mit einem Bachelorabschluss in Betriebswirtschaft ab. Internationale Erfahrung sammelte er zudem im Trikot der serbischen U20-Nationalmannschaft.

Nach seiner Rückkehr aus den USA gelang ihm bei KK FMP der Einstieg in den Profibasketball. Dort kam Zimonjić erstmals in der ABA League zum Einsatz, ehe er im weiteren Verlauf der Saison zu KK Dynamic wechselte, jenem Klub, für den er bereits als Teenager erste Einsätze im Herrenteam absolviert hatte.
Der Wechsel erwies sich als wichtiger Schritt. Mit mehr Spielzeit und wachsender Verantwortung steigerte Zimonjić seine Leistungen in der Saison 2025/26 kontinuierlich und kam in der serbischen KLS auf durchschnittlich 15,9 Punkte, 8,2 Rebounds und 1,7 Assists pro Partie.

Auch Dragan Bajić zeigte sich von Zimonjićs Entwicklung über die gesamte Saison hinweg überzeugt. „Besonders erfreulich ist, dass Bogdan sein Niveau kontinuierlich gesteigert hat, sowohl in der Offensive als auch in der Defensive“, so der Headcoach.

Vor allem seine 8,2 Rebounds pro Spiel fallen ins Auge. Für einen Spieler seiner Größe und Position ist dieser Wert außergewöhnlich. Er verdeutlicht, wie konsequent Zimonjić den Kontakt sucht, Situationen antizipiert und sich auch abseits des Scorings einbringt.

Bajić sieht in der Reboundstärke nur einen Teil seines Profils. „Bogdan ist körperlich stark, kann intensiv und hart verteidigen und verfügt über einen ausgezeichneten Wurf von außen. Darüber hinaus besitzt er ein sehr gutes Gespür für den offensiven Rebound.“

Beim BC Vienna soll Zimonjić seine Qualitäten nun auf einem höheren Wettbewerbsniveau einbringen und dem Team mit seiner Physis, Energie und Wurfstärke wichtige Impulse geben.

Seiner neuen Aufgabe blickt der Neuzugang mit klaren Zielen entgegen: „Ich freue mich auf die neue Saison, möchte gemeinsam mit dem Team erfolgreich sein und mich als Spieler jeden Tag weiterentwickeln.“

Dass Basketball Bogdan Zimonjić schon sein gesamtes Leben begleitet, ist kein Zufall. Seine allerersten Berührungen mit dem Basketball hatte er bei KK Partizanski put im Belgrader Stadtteil Karaburma, einem Klub, den sein Großvater Petronije Zimonjić mitbegründete.

Petronije Zimonjić gehörte über Jahrzehnte zu den prägenden Strength and Conditioning Coaches im Basketball des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens. Die enge Verbindung zu diesem Sport setzte sich auch in der nächsten Generation fort.

Auch Bogdans Vater Predrag „Bata“ Zimonjić machte sich als Athletiktrainer im internationalen Spitzenbasketball einen Namen. Er arbeitete unter anderem für die serbische Nationalmannschaft, Fenerbahçe und BC Khimki und begleitete Trainerlegende Željko Obradović über viele Jahre bei zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Erfolgen. Aktuell gehört er dem Trainerstab des EuroLeague-Klubs KK Partizan an.

Diese Expertise nutzt Bogdan auch in diesem Sommer: Bis zum Start der Saisonvorbereitung arbeitet er gemeinsam mit seinem Vater individuell an seiner Physis und bereitet sich gezielt auf seine neue Aufgabe beim BC Vienna vor.
