Call for applications for the position of ABA League Sports Director

The ABA League has officially launched the application process for the position of Sports Director.

ABA LIGA j.t.d., with its registered office in Zagreb at Prilaz Ivana Visina 7 (hereinafter: “ABA League”), is a commercial company that organizes international basketball competitions and is the exclusive holder and owner of all associated rights. For more than two decades, the ABA League has been one of the most recognizable sporting competitions in the region and an important platform for the development of professional basketball, bringing together leading clubs, players, referees and sports professionals.

With the aim of further developing and improving its sporting system, competition organization and implementation of the ABA League’s strategic objectives, the ABA League invites interested and qualified candidates to apply for the position of:

ABA LEAGUE SPORTS DIRECTOR

We are seeking a distinguished sports professional who will use their knowledge, experience, professional integrity and leadership skills to manage the sporting segment of the ABA League’s operations and be responsible for the organization, development and operational implementation of all competitions organized by the ABA League, while ensuring the highest standards of quality, integrity and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Sporting Director is responsible for managing the ABA League competitions. This includes the planning, organization and operational implementation of all competitions organized by the ABA League, as well as coordinating the work of officials and other competition participants.

In performing their duties, the Sporting Director works directly with the ABA League Assembly, the ABA League Director and other bodies and departments of the ABA League.

Within the scope of their authority, the Sporting Director prepares and proposes to the ABA League Assembly key regulations governing the organization and functioning of competitions, exercises the powers entrusted to them under the ABA League’s internal regulations, including appointing and proposing the appointment of competition officials, makes decisions provided for under the general regulations and competition rules, and implements the ABA League’s sporting policy in cooperation with the other bodies and departments of the ABA League.

The Sports Director is also responsible for the continuous improvement of the ABA League’s sporting system and for proposing measures to ensure the further development of the quality, integrity and international recognition of its competitions.

Required Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have:

  • at least five (5) years of experience in managerial or other positions of responsibility in the field of sport, organization of sporting competitions or management of sports organizations;
  • excellent knowledge of the organization and operation of professional sporting competitions;
  • experience in managing complex organizational projects;
  • proficiency in spoken and written English;
  • strong organizational, communication and negotiation skills;
  • well-developed leadership skills and the ability to engage in strategic planning;
  • the ability to effectively coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams and various stakeholders within the sporting system;
  • a high degree of professional integrity, responsibility and the ability to make timely decisions;
  • readiness for intensive cooperation and communication with ABA League clubs and governing bodies throughout the competition season.


Candidates must not be subject to circumstances that could give rise to a conflict of interest or compromise the independent, objective and professional performance of the duties of the ABA League Sporting Director.

Application Documents

Candidates are required to submit:

  • a curriculum vitae (CV);
  • a motivation letter;
  • a certificate issued by the competent court confirming that no criminal proceedings are pending against the candidate, issued no more than six months prior to the application.


The ABA League reserves the right to request additional documentation or clarification from candidates during the selection process in order to verify that the requirements have been met and to confirm statements made in the application.

Terms of Engagement

The selected candidate will enter into a business cooperation agreement or another appropriate form of contractual arrangement, depending on the agreement reached and the circumstances of the individual case.

Selection Process

Interested candidates must submit their application together with all required documentation no later than 19 August 2026 at 17:00 to the following email address:

Following a review of the applications received, the ABA League may conduct one or more rounds of interviews with candidates and, where necessary, request additional clarification or documentation.

Before making its final decision, the ABA League reserves the right to conduct appropriate checks of the information provided in applications and to request references or other information relevant to assessing candidates’ professional integrity and professional competence.

The final decision on the selection of the candidate will be made by the ABA League Assembly, after which the contractual arrangement with the selected candidate will be concluded.

Personal Data Protection

By submitting an application, the candidate confirms that they are aware of and consent to the ABA League processing their personal data exclusively for the purpose of conducting this selection procedure, in accordance with applicable personal data protection regulations.

Final Provisions

The ABA League reserves the right, at its sole discretion and without any obligation to provide reasons, to amend or suspend this procedure at any time, extend the application deadline, select no candidate, withdraw from the selection of a candidate or terminate negotiations with any candidate, without incurring any obligation or liability towards the applicants.

Submission of an application does not give the candidate any right to enter into a contract and does not oblige the ABA League to select any candidate.
