Dubai Basketball suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the EuroLeague SuperCup semi-finals as Real Madrid prevailed 98:95 after overtime.
The reigning AdmiralBet ABA League champions came extremely close to securing a place in the final after holding a 16-point lead at one stage of the game, but the Spanish powerhouse managed to complete the comeback and eventually seize the win after an additional five minutes.
Dubai Basketball looked in control for a significant part of the game, yet Real Madrid gradually erased the deficit and even moved in front. Still, Dubai refused to surrender and, led by Dwayne Bacon and Elie Okobo, produced another strong push in the fourth quarter.
With the game entering its decisive moments, Dubai Basketball held an 88:85 lead and were on the verge of a memorable victory. However, former Mega Superbet player and Real Madrid summer signing Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot stepped up and knocked down a crucial three-pointer to level the score at 88:88.
Dubai Basketball still had one final opportunity to win the game inside the regular 40 minutes. Thomas Walkup missed a three-point attempt before Tornike Shengelia grabbed the offensive rebound, but his difficult two-point shot did not go in either, sending the contest into overtime.
In the additional five minutes, Real Madrid kept their composure in the key moments and eventually secured a hard-fought 98:95 victory.
Elie Okobo led Dubai Basketball with an impressive 24 points, while Dwayne Bacon added 19.
