Game Recap: U-BT Cluj-Napoca opened their 2026/27 AdmiralBet ABA League campaign in style, grabbing a valuable 95:84 road win against BC Vienna at the Hallmann Dome. The Romanian side started strongly and took the opening quarter 25:19, before Vienna responded and reduced the gap to 45:41 by halftime. U-BT regained full control after the break, outscoring the hosts 21:15 in the third quarter to enter the final period with a double-digit advantage at 66:56. BC Vienna raised their offensive level in the fourth quarter and scored 28 points, but U-BT had an answer every time, adding 29 points of their own to secure a convincing opening-round victory.
Key Moments: The decisive period came immediately after halftime. With Vienna still within striking distance at 45:41, U-BT Cluj-Napoca managed to create separation during the third quarter and pushed their advantage into double digits before the final ten minutes. From that point on, the visitors never allowed Vienna to seriously threaten their lead, responding to every attempt by the hosts to build momentum and calmly closing out the game on the road.
Man of the Match: Two newcomers in the away team deserve to share this recognition. Javonte Smart was everywhere for U-BT Cluj-Napoca. The guard finished the game with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for a game-high index rating of 27, leading his team in points, rebounds, assists and valuation. Uroš Plavšić also produced an excellent all-around performance with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for an index rating of 24.
Can’t Trick the Stats: U-BT Cluj-Napoca won three of the four quarters and, crucially, never allowed Vienna to reduce the deficit in the final period. Despite Vienna scoring 28 fourth-quarter points, the visitors responded with 29, turning a 10-point advantage after 30 minutes into an 11-point final victory.
