Ibrahim Erkan named new ABA League j.t.d. Sports Director
ABA League j.t.d. has completed the structure of its new sports department, as Ibrahim Erkan, who was elected by a majority vote of the company members, officially assumed the position of Sports Director of the regional competition today. Recall that Miguel Ángel Pérez was previously appointed as the new President of the Refereeing Commission, while Robert Brdar took over the position of Disciplinary Judge.

Ibrahim Erkan (43) is a sports executive with more than 15 years of experience in international basketball management, competition operations and event delivery.
He has a proven track record in negotiations with various stakeholders, including landmark framework agreements with players’ and referees’ unions at the pan-European level. He is a trusted advisor to federations, leagues and clubs, with extensive expertise in operational excellence, licensing systems and strategic development.
From 2020 until his appointment as Sports Director of ABA League j.t.d., Erkan served as a member of the EuroLeague Executive Board, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and overseeing club licensing and competition systems across the EuroLeague, EuroCup and U18 competitions. He also negotiated the first pan-European framework agreements with the EuroLeague Players’ Association (ELPA) and the Union of EuroLeague Basketball Officials (UEBO).
He led the league-wide strategy for the development and implementation of competition technologies, including optical tracking, wearable devices, electronic medical records and refereeing technology solutions. He also represented EuroLeague Basketball at inter-institutional meetings with FIBA concerning the restructuring of the European basketball system.
Between 2017 and 2020, Ibrahim Erkan managed international relations with all relevant stakeholders and assisted the Secretary General and President of the Turkish Basketball Federation with governance matters and various operational areas, including anti-doping control, statistics, operations and events. He served as Head of Delegation for a group of more than 100 people at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where he was responsible for accommodation, ticketing, scheduling and VIP operations. He also served as Event Coordinator on the Local Organising Committee for FIBA EuroBasket 2017, as well as Security Manager at the 2017 EuroLeague Final Four in Istanbul.
Regarding his education, Ibrahim Erkan holds an EBI Master’s degree in Sports Marketing and Management from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, a degree in Finance and International Business from New York University, and a degree from the prestigious Duke University.

Podsećamo, prethodno je za novog predsednika Sudijske komisije izabran Migel Anhel Perez, a poziciju disciplinskog sudije preuzeo je Robert Brdar.

Poseduje dokazano iskustvo u pregovorima sa različitim zainteresovanim stranama, uključujući istorijske okvirne sporazume sa sindikatima igrača i sudija na panevropskom nivou. Pouzdani je savetnik federacija, liga i klubova, sa dubokim znanjem u oblasti operativne izvrsnosti, sistema licenciranja i strateškog razvoja.
Erkan je od 2020. godine pa sve od izbora na mesto sportskog direktora ABA lige j.t.d. bio član Izvršnog odbora Evrolige, direktno odgovoran izvršnom direktoru, nadležan za licenciranje klubova i sisteme takmičenja u Evroligi, Evrokupu i U18 takmičenjima. Postigao je i prve panevropske okvirne sporazume sa sindikatom igrača ELPA i sindikatom sudija UEBO.
Vodio je strategiju razvoja tehnologija za takmičenje – optičko praćenje, nosive uređaje, elektronsku medicinsku dokumentaciju i sudijska tehnološka rešenja – na nivou cele lige. Predstavljao je Evroligu na međuinstitucionalnim sastancima sa FIBA u vezi sa restrukturiranjem evropskog košarkaškog sistema.
U periodu od 2017. do 2020. godine, Ibrahim Erkan je upravljao međunarodnim odnosima sa svim relevantnim akterima i pomagao generalnom sekretaru i predsedniku Košarkaškog saveza Turske u pitanjima upravljanja i različitim oblastima, uključujući antidoping kontrolu, statistiku, operacije i događaje. Bio je šef delegacije, koju je činilo više od 100 ljudi, na FIBA Svetskom prvenstvu 2019. godine – bio je odgovoran za smeštaj, ulaznice, raspored i VIP operacije. Bio je koordinator događaja u Lokalnom organizacionom komitetu za Evrobasket 2017. godine, kao i menadžer bezbednosti na Fajnal-foru Evrolige 2017. u Istanbulu.
Što se tiče obrazovanja, Ibrahim Erkan ima EBI master iz sportskog marketinga i menadžmenta sa Univerziteta Foscari u Veneciji, zatim diplomu za finansije i međunarodno poslove sa Univerziteta u Njujorku, a ima i diplomu sa prestižnog Djuk Univerziteta.
