2019/20 ABA League teams – Budućnost VOLI

Budućnost VOLI won their first ABA League title in the 2017/18 season and had therefore returned to the EuroLeague for the 2018/19 season. Those were the days of huge celebration in Podgorica, but everything changed in just one year. At the end of the last-season journey they suffered a painful defeat against Crvena zvezda mts in a thrilling 5-game ABA League Finals. That defeat meant just one thing. Budućnost VOLI have lost the regional crown.

Losing the championship has caused many changes in the team roster. Everything started with a new head coach, as Budućnost VOLI appointed Slobodan Subotić to coach the team in the upcoming season. Then, the club has decided to part ways with no less than 9 players from the previous season. The boys we got used to watch in the Blue jersey including Norris Cole, Earl Clark, Devin Javar Williams, Goga Bitadze, Sead Šehović, Edwin Jackson, Nemanja Gordić, James Bell and Coty Clarke are all gone, while some new guys have landed in Podgorica who will try to bring the club back to the regional throne.

But firstly, let’s start with the players who have remained in the team. The team captain Suad Šehović will still lead the blue troops, local hero Nikola Ivanović has also stayed in the squad, as well as Danilo Nikolić, Petar Popović, Milić Starovlah, Filip Barović and Aleksa Ilić. Also, Zoran Nikolić has returned to the club after spending the last six months on a loan in Mega Bemax.

Now, let’s speak about the newcomers. Budućnost VOLI have brought five of them so far – Hassan Martin (medi Bayreuth), Martins Meiers (Enisey), Scott Wood (BCM Gravelines), Scott Bamforth (Dinamo Sassari) and Justin Cobbs (Cedevita). They have already left quite a good impression in the prep games. For example, Scott Bamforth is the team top scorer so far in the preseason.

They still have three weeks to get to know each other before the new season starts. And there is no need to tell you what will be the main goal for these boys in the upcoming ABA League campaign…
