Budućnost VOLI are about to start another ABA League season in which their goal remains the same as ever – to win the precious trophy.

Over the past couple of years, Budućnost VOLI have become one of the main basketball powers in our region. After all, they have played in the previous three ABA League Finals and they won the club’s first ever regional trophy back in the 2017/18 season. Still, the Podgorica troops certainly feel that they might have done a bit more as they lost the previous two ABA League Finals in dramatic fashion, after losing Game 5 both times against their big rivals Crvena zvezda mts.

But, those defeats did not change the club’s ambitions in any way. Budućnost VOLI are about to start another ABA League season with a clear goal to reach their 4th consecutive finals and to claim the regional throne.

And, that is why they decided to make a real power move on the transfer market this summer. Budućnost VOLI have appointed Aleksandar Džikić as first team head coach! Yes, the very same Aleksandar Džikić who led the Podgorica powerhouse toward their first and only ABA League title back in the 2017/18 season.

Džikić is a club legend and his return has brought a new positive energy among the fans throughout the city. He immediately started creating a brand new roster that fits his style of play and just by looking at the paper, this new Budućnost VOLI team definitely looks powerful.

The club has so far signed six new players this summer, including Edin Atić (Igokea), Marko Jagodić Kuridža (Crvena zvezda mts), Jacob Wiley (Budućnost VOLI), Igor Drobnjak (Studentski centar), D.J. Seeley (Bayern Munich) and another club legend Vladimir Micov (Olimpia Milano) who has returned to Podgorica after 12 long years. Also, there are six players that remained in the team from the last season including Justin Cobbs, Willie Reed, Danilo Nikolić, Petar Popović, Suad Šehović and Zoran Nikolić.

At the same time, Budućnost VOLI have stayed without the fans’ favorite Nikola Ivanović who moved to Crvena zvezda mts, as well as without Luka Mitrović, Amedeo Della Valle, Fedor Žugić, Melvin Ejim, Dragan Apić and Aleksa Ilić.

Budućnost VOLI have made perhaps a bit more changes in the roster than usual, but they have completed some top-class signings and with coach Džikić at the helm this new team is definitely capable of making big things in the following season.

Will we watch them in the ABA League Finals for the 4th consecutive time? We will find out in April next year.
