Story of the game: Budućnost VOLI and FMP will face each other in Podgorica in the opening round of the 2021/22 AdmiralBet ABA League season.
Both sides have made significant changes in their teams over the summer, while each of them has also hired new head coach between the two seasons. Aleksandar Džikić has returned to Budućnost VOLI with whom he won the 2018 regional championship, while on the other side FMP appointed young Nenad Stefanović as new head coach and he will have his AdmiralBet ABA League debut on Sunday evening in Podgorica.
What is interesting about this match is the fact that FMP haven't triumphed in Podgirica for the past 13 years! Still, it should be mentioned that the Panthers traveled to Podgorica just 5 times during that period and they have lost each of those 5 away games.
So, the first round of the new season will give us the answer whether Budućnost VOLI will manage to keep that undefeated run against FMP at home court, or will the Belgrade side finally succeed to break their losing streak in Podgorica.
Match-up in focus: Justin Cobbs is about to start his 3rd consecutive season with Budućnost VOLI and his decision to stay in the club was a huge thing for the blue-and-whites as he was one of the team’s best players in the past two years. Cobbs will now have a direct duel vs. Bryce Jones, an excellent point guard who arrived in FMP this summer. Recall that Jones spent the previous season in Borac and he was the top scorer of the Čačak crew in the 2020/21 AdmiralBet ABA League championship.
