Presenting the 2022/23 AdmiralBet ABA League teams – MZT Skopje Aerodrom

After 4 years the Skopje squad is coming back to AdmiralBet ABA League!

MZT Skopje Aerodrom were part of the top tier of the regional basketball from 2012 to 2018 and during that period they had some memorable moments. Still, after suffering relegation in the 2017/18 season, the club faced a tough period during which, no matter how much they tried, they just could not return to the AdmiralBet ABA League.

For four long years MZT Skopje Aerodrom have been playing in ABA League 2, trying to win the promotion and reach the top tier once again. And, they finally succeeded last season.

MZT Skopje Aerodrom will once again play in ABA League 1 and they have big ambitions ahead of the following season. That is why they signed no less than 5 new players last summer, including Mike Caffey (Crailsheim Merlins), Strahinja Mićović (Mornar-Barsko zlato), Evan Maxwell (BC Zaporizhye), Andrej Magdevski (CSU Ploiești) and Dimitar Pandev (Indiana-Purdue University), while they also promoted youngsters Andrej Andonoski and Samet Yigitoglu to their first team.

The team management also made a great job by keeping some of the key players from the previous season like club legends Vojdan and Damjan Stojanovski, then Billy Ivey, Bojan Krstevski, Adem Mekić and Damjan Robev.

The first team head coach is still Aleksandar Petrović who will therefore finally have a chance to lead his team in ABA League 1. Petrović, who started his coaching career in MZT Skopje Aerodrom, has spent many years in this club and, after coming back to the Skopje giant in February this year, he was the one to lead the team toward the promotion to AdmiralBet ABA League.

It is also worth mentioning that MZT Skopje Aerodrom have never reached the Playoffs of ABA League 1... So, in this season, if they manage to finish the 2022/23 campaign among the top 8 teams on the standings, they will write the new page of club's history.
