At the age of 83, on the same day, that Ranko Žeravica passed away, another legend of former Yugoslavian basketball, Boris Kristančič was taken away from basketball fans.

At the age of 83, on the same day, that Ranko Žeravica passed away, another legend of former Yugoslavian basketball, Boris Kristančič was taken away from basketball fans.

Kristančič, a former basketball player and coach, that left an uneraseable mark former Yugoslavian basketball, was due to his influence on blossom of basketball, especially in Slovenia, but also Yugoslavia, that became one of the World's basketball superpowers, often called the father of Slovenian basketball.

For many years he played for Union Olimpija and Yugoslavia national team, later also coached the team from Ljubljana and was also the president of the technical committee of Yugoslavian Basketball Federation and the head of the organizing committee of 1970 World Cup in Ljubljana, where Yugoslavia national basketball team became the World Champion for the first time, coached by Ranko Žeravica, who passed away on the same day as Boris Kristančič.

In the honour of Boris Kristančič and Ranko Žeravica, every game of the ABA League Round 8 will start with a minute of silence.

Pri 83 letih starosti, na isti dan, ko je umrl Ranko Žeravica, se je od košarkarskega sveta poslovila še ena legenda košarke na področju nekdanje Jugoslavije, Boris kristančič.

Kristančič, nekdanji košarkar in trener, ki je pustil neizbrisen pečat v svetu nekdanje jugoslovanske košarke, je bil zaradi njegovega vpliva na razcvet košarke, še posebej v Sloveniji, a tudi v ostalih delih Jugoslavije, ki se je v njegovem času povzpela med svetovne košarkarske velesile, pogosto označen za očeta slovenske košarke.

številna leta je nastopal za Union Olimpijo ter jugoslovansko člansko reprezentanco, kasneje tudi vodil ljubljansko moštvo kot trener in postal predsednik strokovnega sveta Jugoslovanske košarkarske zveze ter predsednik organizacijskega odbora svetovnega prvenstva leta 1970 v Ljubljani, kjer je Jugoslavija prvič v svoji zgodovini postala svetovni prvak, s klopi pa jo je vodil Ranko Žeravica, ki je umrl na isti dan kot Boris Kristančič.

V čast Borisa Kristančiča in Ranka Žeravice se bo vsaka tekma 8. kola lige ABA začela z minuto molka.
