INTERVIEW: Mavra - “It’s time to make a winning streak even as guests!”

He made 14 points during his first appearance in the ABA League this season, against “his” Cibona and in the very next game against MZT Skopje Aerodrom he had 15 points, which confirmed that the decision of the Karpoš side to sign him for the season was perfect. Dominik Mavra brought new energy to the squad and is one of the most deserving players when speaking of the 9:5 score at the home court for his team since the arrival of new head coach Dragan Nikolić. The shooting guard has played 16 games for the Falcons this season, averaging 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists in the ABA League.

After one season abroad you have returned to the ABA League. How does the competition look like in your eyes this season?

“I have come back to the league that is merely balanced with the strength of the teams, with the exception of Crvena zvezda mts, which is a level above the others. There were many major upsets already, so nobody can be certain regarding the outcome of any game. With five rounds remaining, there are still fierce battles open for the classification from the second to the fourth place, as well as to avoid relegation from the competition, which gives a special charm to the competition this season.”

Karpoš Sokoli team have won eight games this season so far, which is impressive. Which is your secret when playing in Skopje?

“It is difficult to explain such a phenomenon, but I guess that the reason is that we play with special focus at home and that we are holding on to some principles when playing in front of the home crowd. For the first time we have done such a thing now even on the road, as we have beaten Union Olimpija. We have begun our streak at home against Budućnost VOLI and slowly, one by one, we made eight games and that is not surprising anymore at all, since every new triumph raises the level of our self-confidence now. I believe that the time has arrived for us to make a similar streak when playing on the road now as well.”

From what we can see during the games, as well as from the photos that you have been posting on social media, it seems that there is a tremendous atmosphere within your team. Can you describew how your locker room looks like after you win a game?

“For us every new win is worth gold, since we have started the season with a 0:8 record and that’s why after every new success huge amount of happiness escalates. The chemistry on the team is fantastic and this has definitelygiven results. Me and some other players have put a mission impossible ahead of us and tried to fix what already seemed to be a lost situation. The rest of the team joined this effort afterwards and we have succeeded in our efforts.”

The battle to avoid relegation is still ongoing and it is more exciting than ever. What do you believe that might be crucial in the final five rounds in this battle?

“It is difficult to say what would be decisive in the battle to avoid the last place. In principle, the teams that will avoid relegation will be the ones that will play smart and that will have a huge amount of luck. I expect from the remaining games to be able to go anyone’s game and that only the details will decide it.”

Mavra definitivno donese nova energija i sigurno e eden od najzaslužnite što „sokolite“ imaat osum pobedi vo niza na domašen teren i skor 9-5 otkako na klupata sedna trenerot Dragan Nikolić. Po kusata epizoda vo stranstvo se vrativte vo ABA-ligata. Kako vi izgleda ova natprevaruvanje sezonava?

„Se vrativ vo liga koja deluva maksimalno izednačena, so isklučok na Crvena zvezda koja definitivno se izdvojuva vo odnos na ostanatite ekipi. Vo minatoto imaše golem broj iznenaduvanja, što e e dobra rabota za ova natprevaruvanje bidejći nikoj ne može da bide siguren za ništo. Vo momentov, na samo pet kola do krajot, se vodi golema borba kako za plasman pomeđu vtorata i četvrtata pozicija na tabelata taka i za opstanok, što definitivno i dava poseben šmek na ABA-ligata sezonava.“

Ekipata na Karpoš Sokoli ostvari osum pobedi po red na domašen teren, što definitivno pretstavuva impresiven učinok. Koja e tajnata na vašiot uspeh na sredbite vo Skopje?

„Navistina e čudno da se objasni ovoj svoeviden fenomen, no deluva kako da imame pogolema koncentracija i poveće se pridržuvame na principite koga igrame pred svoite gledači. Prviot pat koga vakvo nešto napravivme i na sredba na gosti, uspeavme da ja sovladame Union Olimpija. Počnavme so Budućnost VOLI i poleka, sredba po sredba, nizata stigna do osum pobedi, za što definitivno pridonese i faktot što so sekoj triumf se zgolemuvaše i samodoverbata kaj nas vo timot. Mislam deka e vreme vakvata serija da ja prodolžime i na sredbite kaj protivnicite.“

Spored toa što možeme da go vidime za vreme na natprevarite, no i na fotografiite što potoa gi postirate na socijalnite mreži, se čini deka vo timot vladee odlična atmosfera. Može li da ni opišete kako seto toa izgleda vo vašata soblekuvalna otkako će se obezbedi pobedata?

Borbata za opstanok i ponatamu trae, a se čini deka će bide povozbudliva od bilo koga. Što, spored vašeto mislenje, će bide presudno vo poslednite pet kola za izbegnuvanje na poslednoto mesto na tabelata?

„Teško e so sigurnost da se kaže što će bide iks-faktorot koj će odluči vo borbata za izbegnuvanje na poslednoto mesto. Vo princip, opstanok će obezbedat ekipite koi će bidat popametni i koi će imaat pogolema sreća. Očekuva mnogu od preostanatite natprevari da bidat izednačeni i pobednicite da gi rešat nijansite.
