The famous yellow-and-black troops hope to have a much better season than the previous one in which they scored just 6 wins and finished at the 13th place.

Split is definitely one of the most famous basketball teams from our region. The three-time European champions have a long and rich history, but in recent years they’ve been pretty far away from the top of the AdmiralBet ABA League standings. For two consecutive years Split have been finishing the regular season at the 13th place, which is just above the relegation zone, and the yellow-and-blacks are now determined to improve that position and finally make their way toward the upper part of the table.

On that journey they will be led by head coach Srđan Subotić who will therefore start his 2nd consecutive season with the club. Subotić and the team management decided to make some big changes in the roster over the summer as Split’s squad will look significantly different that in the last season.

The club stayed without several important first team players including Nejc Barič, Darko Bajo, Karlo Žganec, Sani Čampara, Toni Perković... But, they manage to keep their best player from the 2021/22 campaign – Shannon Shorter.

Shorter, who was officially the top scorer of the 2021/22 AdmiralBet ABA League season, will spend at least one more year with the yellow-and-blacks, which is definitely a huge thing for this club and their ambitions as it is not easy to find that good scorer on the market right now.

Speaking about the transfer market, Split have made 3 signings over the summer. The biggest name that arrived in the club is definitely former Zadar star player Dominik Mavra who has returned to Split after 10 years. The second player to join Split this summer was Mate Kalajžić, former Gorica point guard, who has also returned to the club as he started his pro career in Split and has played for this club from 2013 to 2020. The third and the final newcomer was shooting guard Nikola Đogo who came from Hamilton Honey Badgers.

It is also worth mentioning that Split promoted several youth players into first team this summer, so the squad will be much younger than in the previous two seasons.

Will this new energy help the club bounce back on its feet and bring some better results than in the previous seasons? We will find out the answer on those questions very soon.
